Australian Remy Gardner insists his disappointment in a P4 race two result at the Czech Republic’s sixth round of the 2024 FIM World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) ‘is a good sign’, the number 87 adamant he had greater potential on the weekend.

The GYTR GRT Yamaha entry charged to fifth in Saturday’s opening encounter before equalling that result in Sunday’s Superpole race, ultimately completing the weekend just shy of the podium in race two.

The former Moto2 world champion has experienced a surge in form throughout his second season in WorldSBK, which has elevated his standards as the series reaches the halfway mark.

“Honestly, I’m a little bit disappointed, but let’s take this as a positive thing,” Gardner stated. “To be disappointed with fourth is a good sign – it means we have much more potential to express.

“In race two, we were also lucky on not being involved in the turn one crash, then I was able to build a good race with strong race pace until the end. Unfortunately, I couldn’t close the gap to the final podium place, I felt there was the potential, but we’ve got to be satisfied with the weekend overall.”

Gardner, who’s set to make a second MotoGP appearance this year in place of Cal Crutchlow’s British grand prix wildcard next month, is now ranked seventh in the WorldSBK standings as the series heads to Portugal on 9-11 August.
