A chance opportunity has emerged for Carter Thompson to contest the Most round of the World Supersport 300 Championship, filling in for Petr Svoboda at the RT Motorsports by SKM Kawasaki team. The Australian teenager is also set to line up at Portimao.

Thompson, 16, is a regular in the Red Bull Rookies MotoGP Cup, currently 13th in the standings after picking up a pair of ninth-place finishes at Assen on the weekend. He’s a former Australian Oceania Junior Cup (OJC) and R3 Cup series winner.

“I’m so happy to be joining the RT Motorsport by SKM team for the next two rounds in Czech Republic and Portugal,” Thompson commented. “I want to thank both Rob and Frank [Krekeler] for giving me the opportunity to join the team and look forward to working with you all. I will be riding for Petr, who is unfortunately injured, wishing him all the best in his recovery. Looking forward to some great racing.”

Svoboda – the Czech rider who won the opening round of the Australian Supersport 300 Championship at Phillip Island earlier this year as a wildcard – sustained a broken leg at the Emilia-Romagna round and will be sidelined for the upcoming races. He is positioned sixth in the point-standings.
